Tomorrow we will start a 26 part sermon series going through the book of Acts. I'm calling it the "Second Greatest Story Ever Told". Here is the outline for my intro sermon tomorrow from the book of Luke
Luke 24:44-53
Then he said to them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled." (45) Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, (46) and said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, (47) and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. (48) You are witnesses of these things. (49) And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high." (50) Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. (51) While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. (52) And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, (53) and were continually in the temple blessing God.
Intro- The Book of Acts, Family Devotions, and the Jesus Storybook Bible
The purpose of the Bible is to reveal Jesus Christ
From our text:
I. The whole Bible (OT & NT) reveals Jesus to us
Luke 24:44 Then he said to them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled."
NT- “my words” “while I was still with you” –
The Gospels- Words of Jesus
Rest of the NT- Words of Jesus taught through the Apostles
OT- “everything written about me”
John 5:39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me,
Torah- Genesis 3:15, Deuteronomy 18:15
The Writings- Psalm 2:6-7; 118
The Prophets- Isaiah 53; 61:1
II. The Bible reveals “who” Jesus is.
He is the Christ
Luke 24:46-47 and said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, (47) and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
III. The Bible reveals “how” Jesus is the Christ
"suffer and on the third day rise from the dead"
IV. The Bible reveals “why” Jesus is the Christ
"repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his
name to all nations"
Application:
I. God must “open our minds” (verse 45) to see the Christ of the Bible
Must have repentance and forgiveness of sins (saved)
Must rely on the Spirit to lead us to faithful interpretations
(Interpretations must magnify Christ and minimize man)
